Inappropriate postures and Pelosi’s emissions

US promotes climate aid to skeptical Congress
By Shaun Tandon

WASHINGTON — The US administration said that assistance to poor countries worst hit by climate change was crucial to US credibility as it struggled to convince a skeptical Congress.

Wealthy economies — namely the United States, Japan and European Union — have promised billions of dollars to poor countries in what has become a key component of a future global treaty on climate change.

Chief US climate negotiator Todd Stern on Wednesday told Congress that such investment was “in our national interest” and quoted a World Bank study saying that every dollar spent on disaster preparedness saved $7 in disaster response.

“It will strengthen our international posture, contribute to our own economic growth and help build a clean energy world less exposed and more resilient to the very real dangers of climate change,” Stern told the House Foreign Affairs Committee. (AFP)

I fail to see how bending over and grabbing your ankles “improves your international posture“. Chris Christie is doing much better and Pelosi’s political hypocrisy? Nothing particularly unusual about that, is there.

Christie pulls New Jersey out of greenhouse-gas accord
By Ben Geman – 05/26/11 12:18 PM ET

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) will pull his state out of a cap-and-trade program called the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative established several years ago among northeastern and mid-Atlantic states.

“This program is not effective in reducing greenhouse gases and is unlikely to be in the future,” he said at press conference Thursday, according to The Star-Ledger.

Christie’s action to abandon RGGI — a 10-state program to limit greenhouse gases from power plants — is a blow to climate activists. (E2 Wire)

A few months ago Judicial Watch, which describes itself as a “a conservative, non-partisan educational foundation, [which] promotes transparency, accountability and integrity in government, politics and the law” summarized the results of its Freedom of Information request for records concerning Nancy Pelosi’s use of Air Force aircraft for her transportation while Speaker of the House. 1. Really Guys???
21.1 Pounds of CO2 out of what is essentially a Gallon of Diesel fuel? Diesel only weighs around 7 pounds a gallon. Does no one filter this Crap?

    • Actually smiley, you really need to think about it a little more carefully – the carbon content is sourced from the fuel (atomic weight 12) and the oxygen comes from the atmosphere (atomic weight 16) so combustion of carbon fuels delivers 1 carbon (12) plus 2 oxygen (2×16=32) for a net CO2 output 44/12 or 3.67 times the fuel source mass. This of course does not include the water vapor also produced from combustion of hydrocarbons.
