No, the storms aren’t “global warming”

Damn You, Global Warming!
by Doug L. Hoffman on Wed, 05/25/2011 – 19:12

Despite warnings to the contrary, and waning public support, the all purpose boogieman climate change is once again getting credit for the recent spate of natural disasters in the US. Whether its flooding on the Mississippi, rain soaked fields too wet to plant, or rampaging tornadoes laying waste to whole towns the villain behind our misfortune is anthropogenic global warming. Reports from the scenes of devastation are sure to include at least one reference to climate change, which is of course caused by people. In essence, the yammering news media—who always needs a culprit to blame when disaster befalls a group of innocents—has placed the blame squarely back on humanity. That’s right, we are responsible for the tragic deaths of hundreds of people caused by storm, flood and tornadoes. The chattering class once again demonstrates that they have bought the IPCC climate change scam: hook, line and sinker. They would rather mindlessly repeat the discredited memes of climate alarmists than think critically themselves. (The Resilient Earth)

New paper finds no evidence of climate change causing increase of tropical storms

A paper published online today in the Journal of Geophysical Research finds that there is no evidence to suggest that ‘climate change’ is responsible for a reported increase in the frequency of short-duration tropical storms of the North Atlantic during the 20th century. The paper finds that an increase in reported storms is simply due to improved methods of detection (the “observing system”) over the 20th century rather than any evidence of ‘climate change.’ (Hockey Schtick)

Lawrence Solomon: More evidence it used to be really hot out there

A linchpin in the global warming theory is the claim that we now live in a time of unprecedented warmth. Unfortunately for those who assert this theory, the history books all said it was hot during the centuries immediately before and after 1000 AD – the time known the Medieval Warm Period. My Experiences With A Lack Of Proper Diligence And Bias In The NSF Review Process For Climate Proposals

Recently, I requested information from NSF under the Freedom of Information Act regarding how my recent proposals on the effect of landscape processes on climate were handled. The reason for this request is given below.  My experiences, however, may be of more general interest particularly in light of Judy Curry’s post of May 25, 2011

A less cold world is more life-friendly with lower temperature gradient from equator to poles

One of the reasons we’ve never been troubled by the prospect of a less-cold world – a broader tropical belt with temperate zones to the poles just isn’t that frightening a prospect.

New research published in Science points to the significant role of oceans in ancient global cooling

Research led by Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute scientist finds evidence that early antarctic circumpolar current development impacted global climate

Troy, N.Y. – Thirty-eight million years ago, tropical jungles thrived in what are now the cornfields of the American Midwest and furry marsupials wandered temperate forests in what is now the frozen Antarctic. The temperature differences of that era, known as the late Eocene, between the equator and Antarctica were only half of what they are today. A debate has long been raging in the scientific community on what changes in our global climate system led to such a major shift from the more tropical, greenhouse climate of the Eocene to the modern and much cooler climates of today. Inappropriate postures and Pelosi’s emissions

US promotes climate aid to skeptical Congress
By Shaun Tandon

WASHINGTON — The US administration said that assistance to poor countries worst hit by climate change was crucial to US credibility as it struggled to convince a skeptical Congress.

Wealthy economies — namely the United States, Japan and European Union — have promised billions of dollars to poor countries in what has become a key component of a future global treaty on climate change.

Chief US climate negotiator Todd Stern on Wednesday told Congress that such investment was “in our national interest” and quoted a World Bank study saying that every dollar spent on disaster preparedness saved $7 in disaster response.

“It will strengthen our international posture, contribute to our own economic growth and help build a clean energy world less exposed and more resilient to the very real dangers of climate change,” Stern told the House Foreign Affairs Committee. (AFP)

I fail to see how bending over and grabbing your ankles “improves your international posture“. Chris Christie is doing much better and Pelosi’s political hypocrisy? Nothing particularly unusual about that, is there.
